Year 7 Geography
Within Geography pupils will gain further locational knowledge by investigating basic skills to deepen their spatial awareness of world’s countries using maps of the world. Pupils will also build on their knowledge of globes, maps and atlases and use these geographical tools routinely in the classroom and in the field.
Topics studied will include a study of Africa which will aid in developing their location knowledge. They will then go onto investigate coastal landforms, glacial landforms and be able to explain tectonics and different rock forms.
In reference to physical geography pupils will be taught about geological timescale, weathering (coastal and glacial), climate through weather module, and change in climate. Pupils will look closely at glaciation, hydrology and coasts. Pupils will begin to understand how human and physical processes interact to influence and change landscapes, environments and climates, and how human activity relies on effective functioning of natural systems (weather module and basic skills)
Pupils will be given the chance to interpret OS maps in classroom and in field, including using grid refs and scale, topographical and other thematic mapping, aerial and satellite photos.
