World Book Day
Thursday 7th March
Parkside thoroughly enjoyed celebrating annual World Book Day on 7th March 2019. The whole school participated in sharing our love of reading and enthusiasm for books in a variety of different ways during the day. Pupils had great fun dressing up as characters from their favourite stories - we had the widest variety of outfits yet and it provided an excellent opportunity to talk about why the characters were their favourite. In addition, we also held a 'Miniature Book World' competition: pupils were asked to create a three-dimensional world of a book in a shoebox, but they could not include the title of the book. The entries were outstanding, demonstrating real creativity and imagination.
Finally, our Literacy Leaders helped to organise a cake sale, with book-themed treats on sale, to raise funds for new books for our school library. We were also thrilled to be able to encourage artistic talent from two Year 8 pupils, Madeline Searchfield and Toby Buxton, as they designed beautiful bookmarks which were sold and in high demand during the day.
