This most recent school closure and lockdown has been tough for many, but we are particularly proud of our pupils here at Parkside for their resilience and resourcefulness both in and out of the ‘virtual classroom’.
Pupils’ hard work and determination with their academic work has been inspiring, but we know from speaking to our pupils and to many of their parents and carers that they have been doing so much more! Pupils have been doing lots of other things from helping to decorate bedrooms, doing gardening, learning how to cook, to taking on challenges for fundraising, or even helping neighbours clear drives and we wanted to recognise and celebrate this. We gave each pupil an online sharing space to really show off to us under the categories of: Creativity, Getting Active, Being Resourceful, Acts of Kindness and Working Collaboratively and challenged the pupils to complete something in each category - more than one if possible! To say we as a staff were blown away would be an understatement… We nominated pupils from their form groups to receive an award and winners were picked by Mrs Mancini and Miss Field.
So, on Friday 26th March we held our first ever ‘Pride of Parkside Awards’ virtually across the whole school. During this we celebrated all pupils who had taken part and were able to present the winners with certificates and give them all a round of applause! This was a huge success and a great way to bring all of the year groups together.
